Queen Maxima of the Netherlands opted for a metallic golden dress for a royal engagement in Rotterdam yesterday.

The 47-year-old Queen, who married King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, 51, in 2002, chose a knee-length gold gown for the naming ceremony of Van Oord’s dredger Vox Amalia.

Queen Maxima’s chic dress featured a pretty flower-like detail on her her right shoulder and long sleeves which were perfect for the cold winter day.

Her Majesty arrived for the traditional event in a wide-brimmed olive green hat and wore a stylish dogtooth tweed coat over her shoulders.

The Dutch royal, who is mother to Princess Catharina-Amalia, 15, Princess Alexia, 13, and Princess Ariane, 11, completed her look with a pair of suede pumps which matched her hat and added a pair of coordinating gloves.

Pearl and amber statement earrings and sophisticated make-up complimented her outfit choice.

Her Majesty was all smiles when she was photographed talking to the crew during a tour of the vessel.

She later met with employees of the company, that is celebrating it’s 150th anniversary this year, and was given a musical performance by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.

Queen Maxima was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers at the naming ceremony which took place in front of 1,400 employees.

A trailing suction hopper dredger, such as the Vox Amalia, is a vessel that can dredge sand, clay, sludge and gravel from river beds, maintaining the minimum depths required for canals and harbours for example.

Earlier in the week, the King and Queen of the Netherlands welcomed the President of Cape Verde and his wife to the country for a state visit.

Queen Maxima dazzled in diamonds and a stunning scarlet gown at the state banquet held in their honour.
