Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper turned out to celebrate their A Star Is Born co-star Sam Elliott as he officially made his mark on Hollywood Boulevard.

The veteran actor, who plays Bobby, the older brother of Cooper’s character Jackson Maine in the film, imprinted his hands and feet in cement on the world’s most famous pavement at a special ceremony honouring his career.

Just a day after the Golden Globes – at which A Star Is Born picked up the gong for best song with Shallow but missed out on the top awards for best film, best actor and best actress in the drama category – the stars showed the strong bond formed on set as they hugged in front of the waiting crowd.

Elliott, 74, who is also known for films including The Big Lebowski and Road House, reflected on his life’s work and his love for acting, telling reporters it was “the people you work with, the community… and feeling like you’re doing something that makes a difference to somebody” that made him passionate about his work.

Dressed in a sky-blue trench coat, Gaga, 32, shared an Instagram story as she received a kiss on her forehead from Elliott.

“So excited to be here for Sam Elliott’s hand & footprint ceremony,” she wrote, adding a series of heart emojis.

Elliott started his acting career with minor roles in Westerns such as The Way West and Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid in the late 1960s, but it wasn’t until the 1980s that his career took off in films such as Mask and Road House.

While he didn’t receive a nomination for best supporting actor for A Star Is Born at this year’s Golden Globes, industry magazine Variety has tipped him for his first Oscar nomination for his “tender performance”.

A Star Is Born was a favourite for this year’s Golden Globes, but of its five nominations it only picked up one, the award for best song.

Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody took the gong for best film (drama) and its star, Rami Malek, who plays Freddie Mercury, beat Cooper to the best actor trophy.

Glenn Close was named the winner in the best actress category, for her role in The Wife, despite Gaga being the favourite.

Following the star’s moving acceptance speech at the awards, Gaga posted on Twitter to offer her congratulations, describing Close as “a true legend”.
